
North Somerset AC end season in style
A strong end to the cross-country season saw North Somerset Athletic Club come away with numerous team awards in the Gwent Cross Country League as well as performing well at the recent National Cross Country.
In the Gwent Cross Country League the Under 13 age group in both the boys and girls sections were the stand out performers across the season. Awards were presented at the final league match at Brecon, both teams took 1st place in the overall team standings with Oliver F taking an excellent 2nd place on the day in the boys with Matilda H 3rd in the girls.

The under 17 men’s team dominated their age category all season, coming away with a convincing victory in the team standings. A very talented squad that included race wins during the season from Beb C and Reuben W with great team packing from Leo D, James B, Joe F, Felix A and Stan B.
The Under 15 Boys produced their best performance on the last day of the season to move from 4th to 2nd in the overall standings, led home by Euan M in the top 5. The girls U15 squad just missed out on the medals but showed great improvement throughout the season.
The Under 11 boys and girls teams both secured team medals, the boys 2nd and the girls 3rd overall, the performances in this age group show that there is a lot of talent for the future. Stand out performances throughout the season came from Charlotte M, Edna J, Oscar R and Arthur C.
Jo Gallagher was the top performer in the Senior Women’s team, her excellent top 20 finishes throughout the season secured the clubs place in Division 2 for another season. The men retained their Division 1 status through consistent performances throughout the year from the team, in particular Callum Day who secured an individual award of 3rd place U23.

The club also took 50 athletes to this years National Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill. On a testing, hilly and extremely muddy course the club performed superbly against the country’s best athletes. James B was the highest place finisher on the day for the club making the top 50 in the U17 mens race. The best team performance came in the Under 13 girls and Boys where they finished 11th and 12th respectively.
Many of the team went on to represent the county at the inter county champs or English Schools finals in recent weeks, all performing well. After a fantastic winter the club will now turn its attention to the track season and hope for further success throughout the summer.
